FAST FACTS

THE DETAILS

The station reflects the values of the ‘precinct’ with its contemporary use of the same materials.

The new Queensland Ambulance Building delivers a striking addition to the Gordonvale streetscape. Located south of Cairns this facility provides a much needed boost to emergency services for the town and its surrounding community. The station is situated on the corner of the existing Gordonvale Hospital site and form a distinctive address to approaching traffic.

The accommodation consists of a five bay Ambulance Plant Room, housing the latest fleet vehicles, coupled to a Station Building for staff and operations, including a Multi-Purpose Training Room for in-house and public use.

Fibro clad cottages, corrugated iron cladding, lightweight materials and framed structures can be seen in the Heritage Precinct area. The station reflects the values of the ‘precinct’ with its contemporary use of the same materials. Roof pitches and articulated roof forms draw reference from the surrounding townscape.

The new station sits comfortable in its surrounds, and manages to add colour, scale and activity to a previously vacant part of the street.
