The rehabilitation centre was developed to provide appropriate internal and external facilities to support the focus on both day and inpatient rehabilitation at the Mater Private Hospital in Pimlico, Townsville. The unit also has a number of consulting and treatment rooms used for assessment of patients, ADL kitchen and laundry area that is used to allow patients to practice how to use and re-adjust to household areas and spaces, two gym spaces featuring different gym equipment for rehabilitation programs, staff offices and meeting rooms.

A purpose designed outdoor rehabilitation and training facility used to replicate outdoor elements and materials commonly found in domestic homes and typical stairs found in government and public buildings has been constructed as an integral part of the unit. -2 gymnasiums -therapy spaces -office spaces -ADL (activities for daily living) kitchen and laundry spaces

The refurbishment was the 3rd change of use given to the original operating theatre building constructed in in the 1970’s. It included replacement of the mechanical plant and addressing the compliance issues associated with a building of over 35 years.
